A congregational rabbi for nearly 40 years, Rabbi Phil Posner has long been active in Social Action activities. In 1961 he joined the Freedom Rides, helping to integrate transportation facilities. As a result, he served 39 days in Parchman Penitentiary in Mississippi.
He is the co-founder of the Rabbinic Network for Ethiopian Jewry, which successfully challenged fellow rabbis to help Ethiopian Jews get to Israel.
Ordained in 1968, he also holds a Doctorate in Hebrew Letters in ethics from the Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion. He is also the author of Food for Thought, Character and Soul – Recipes and Blessings Included –the world’s first character based cook book.
