LOOKING JEWISH / JEWISH LOOKING Jewish Identity through Modern Art, with Dana Peleg

4 Sundays in August (7th, 14th, 21th, 28th), 7:00 pmat TBE, 3055 Porter Gulch Road

They say that wherever there are two Jews, you'll find three synagogues. So, if you have one Jewish artist - how many identities, stories and artistic styles will you find? In a series of four lectures, we'll look at works by some of the most influential modern Jewish artists. From the 19th Century Reform Mauritz Oppenheim via 20th-Century Socialist Ben Shahn to our contemporary Mizrahi Feminist Shula Keshet, and many more in between, we'll track the events that shaped their lives - and ours, as well... Dana G. Peleg (danagpeleg@gmail.com) holds an MA in Art History from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. As part of her studies, she researched the works of Israeli Jewish artists. Peleg is also a published author in Israel, a Hebrew/English translator, and a Hebrew teacher. She lives in Santa Cruz with her partner Mimi and their son Boaz. Check out her bilingual website danagpeleg.net and blog danagpelegcom.wordpress.com ~~~~ $12 per session / $40 per series ($10 per session / $35 for the series for members of TBE & CY) To RSVP, contact Sarah Clarkson at sclarkson@tbeaptos.org
