Interfaith Shelter Program

The Interfaith Shelter Program needs Volunteers!

Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked to cover him, and not to hide yourself from your own flesh? Then shall your light break forth like the dawn, and your healing shall spring up speedily, your righteousness shall go before you, the glory of the Eternal shall be your rear guard. Isaiah 58:7-8

The Tikkun Olam Committee has agreed to continue our highly successful Mitzvah supporting the Interfaith Shelter Program. This is a group of faith organizations providing transitional housing with dinner each night of the week, as well as breakfast, for a community of about 20 individuals currently without secure housing. Each third Sunday of the month, Chadeish Yameinu provides dinner and breakfast to these homeless folks.  We also stay to eat dinner with them.  (We gather at Peace United, 900 High Street in Santa Cruz, at about 5:45 pm and eat at 6pm).

We want to thank our wonderful volunteers who contributed to the program in May:

Mikey and Miriam Cohen
Etiel Herring
Jeanne Rosen
Lynn LeRose and Ed Garner

We want to continue and build on our support of this really worthwhile program. We need more volunteers! Would you like to participate? Could you bring a main dish, vegetable, salad and bread, dessert, drinks or breakfast for about 25 people?  Our upcoming dates are August 20, September 17, and October 15. If you are unable to eat with us, a donation of $20 - 30 will purchase one of the meal items above.
