The need for a new CY logo arose when Reb Eli invited the congregation to attend the recent Women's March in Santa Cruz in January. We found that our organization did not possess a large banner which could identify us while marching. Ed Garner volunteered to create the banner, but discovered that the only graphic files of the old logo that could be found were very low resolution JPGs, unuseable for printing on a large format such as a banner. In discussions with Reb Eli and other congregation members, it was also felt that the parts of the old logo design - while serving us well for these many years - contained complex small details and text wording that was difficult to see. A design upgrade to something bolder but more simplified and easier to read seemed to be in order.
The new design which was created contains the Hebrew Aleph letter, acknowledging our membership in the worldwide organization, Alliance for Jewish Renewal; the blue color of the large inner circle is taken from the Israeli flag, connecting us to our Jewish homeland roots; the rainbow colors of the outer band signifies our welcoming acceptance of different gender, social, racial and religious identities.
